Since the COVID-19 outbreak, we have seen a shift in our lives enormously. The streets that were once filled with hustle and bustle are now muted. The schools remain shut. Curfews are placed in a plethora of cities and more and more people are given the option of working remotely.
For many of us, for the longest time were unaware of a concept called “Work from Home” or working “remotely.” We had heard all sweet things about it, of course, but experiencing it didn’t occur until the pandemic. And, the entire practice has been quite interesting. Yes, COVID-19 has been scary, but maybe this time can be used as an experiment to prove that work from home actually works.
There is no denying the fact that life is quite stressful as we speak. Staying at home and working simultaneously is not a piece of cake for many. Some battle with loneliness while for some managing their kids while they are working can be a bit of a struggle.
But despite everything, working from home can be quite empowering because you can set the time according to your convenience. Your breaks become more meaningful and you get to eat healthy wholesome home-cooked food. No one is there to micro-manage you and the long commutes are avoided, ensuring you save a bit of your money and time.
I have seen people who have made a shift from full-time employees to full-time freelancers because of the above-mentioned benefits. In fact, they say that working remotely has accelerated their productivity and some have even started building their own businesses.
Until COVID-19 subsides, home is our only place of work and worship. Now, don’t be disheartened, if you are new to this, you can make it work. Always have a designated work area and jazz up the space according to your needs. Make sure your work area makes you feel happy and not anxious. But before the outbreak, I have seen my friends who freelance; work from almost anywhere and everywhere. Right from a quaint coffee shop to airports or even while camping; all you need is strong internet to make it work.
Now that most of us have experienced the bliss of working from home, giving it up completely once things get back to normal can become difficult. This means, now companies that didn’t have a remote working option will have to support it moving forward since they can see that it works wonderfully. In fact, in today’s time, we want a flexible work environment. According to research conducted by the International Workplace Group, it was found that almost 80 percent of job seekers opt for options that have a work from home option rather than one that doesn’t support this facility.
We are not sure when things will get back to normal, but we know that they will and maybe then, even the companies with stern policies will learn to be flexible and allow their employees the freedom they crave because the end of the day, that’s what elevates the productivity.
